FactMazda gave the CX-60 a longitudinal straight-six and rear-biased AWD, its first car built that way.
The Mazda CX-60 (model code KH) is a mid-size crossover SUV produced by Mazda since March 2022 at Hōfu Plant No. 2 in Japan. Revealed on 8 March 2022 as part of Mazda's "Large Product Group", it is the first Mazda to use the rear- and all-wheel-drive platform with a longitudinal engine layout, which includes a line-up of straight-six engines, and the first Mazda with a plug-in hybrid option; it is larger than the CX-5 and smaller than the CX-9, and is sold in Europe, Japan, Australia and several other markets while North America receives the CX-70 (essentially a CX-90 without the third row). It is a two-row vehicle using a rear-biased, full-time "i-Activ AWD" that is standard in most markets, with double-wishbone front suspension and an independent multi-link rear made possible by the longitudinal engine, a Kinematic Posture Control system that gently brakes the inside rear wheel to contain body roll, and an 8-speed automatic whose multi-plate clutch and integrated motor/generator replace the hydraulic torque converter. The cockpit has a full TFT instrument cluster, a window head-up display and a 12.3-inch Mazda Connect centre display without touchscreen, and a Driver Personalisation System that adjusts the driving position from a camera. The plug-in hybrid was the first variant released, followed by a 3.3-litre e-Skyactiv D straight-six diesel (with a 48 V mild hybrid, in two tunings of 200 and 254 PS in Europe from July 2022) and a 3.3-litre turbocharged petrol straight-six announced in October 2022; the page also mentions a 3.0-litre e-Skyactiv X petrol, which is not entered here because the page gives it no figures. The 48 V mild hybrid, called M Hybrid Boost, has a 0.33 kWh lithium-ion battery and a 12 kW (16 hp) motor/generator. It scored five stars in Euro NCAP testing in 2022.

IIHS only crash-tests the driver's corner; tested on the passenger side instead, the CX-5 showed far worse intrusion.

Despite launching from a standing start in late 2025, the i60 topped GAC Aion's own sales chart through January's seasonal slowdown.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.
