The Mazda CX-4 is a compact crossover SUV produced and sold exclusively in China, first introduced at the Beijing Motor Show in April 2016 and manufactured by the FAW Mazda joint venture until 2023, when Changan Mazda acquired 100% of it. Its design was previewed by the Mazda Koeru concept; positioned above the CX-3, it is more like a station wagon in profile while similar to the CX-5 in size, and shares underpinnings with the Mazda3 (BM) and CX-5 (KE). It was offered with two Skyactiv straight-four petrol engines, the 2.0-litre PE-VPS with 158 hp (117 kW) and the 2.5-litre PY-VPS with 192 hp (143 kW); the 2.0 is front-wheel drive only, with a choice of a six-speed manual or the six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic, and the 2.5 offers AWD and comes standard with the six-speed automatic. Wheelbase 2,700 mm (106.3 in), length 4,633 mm (182.4 in), width 1,840 mm (72.4 in). The 2020 facelift (revealed in late 2019) brought redesigned bumpers, radiator grille and taillights with the powertrain unchanged. The decision to discontinue it was made in early 2023 after deliveries fell below 10,000 units in 2022; China sales were 21,117 in 2017, 61,376 in 2018, 49,419 in 2019, 48,796 in 2020, 19,383 in 2021, 6,573 in 2022 and 4,636 in 2023. In January 2018 Zotye Auto unveiled its Traum MA501, which bears a striking resemblance to the CX-4.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.
