FactChina got a sunroof nobody else could order: the Chinese-built Mazda2 was the only market worldwide offered one on this generation.
The second-generation Mazda2 was launched at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show on a platform similar to the sixth-generation Ford Fiesta, lighter and smaller overall and dropping its predecessor's tall-roof look for a conventional hatchback. Lead designer Ikuo Maeda later became Mazda's head of design. It came as three- and five-door hatchbacks and, for Southeast Asia, Oceania and Latin America, a four-door sedan built in Thailand and China. Engines were 1.3 and 1.5-litre MZR petrol units and 1.4 and 1.6-litre diesels, and North America received it in July 2010 with a 100 hp 1.5.
