FactThe supercharged Trevi Volumex was the first car in nearly fifty years to use a mechanically driven supercharger.
The Lancia Trevi (Type 828), initially marketed as the Lancia Beta Trevi, is a saloon car produced between 1980 and 1984, with transversely mounted inline-four engines driving the front wheels; its engines have twin overhead camshafts and electronic ignition, with a single dry-plate diaphragm clutch and a five-speed gearbox as standard, MacPherson struts all round with coil springs and an anti-roll bar, and 185/65 14 inch Pirelli P6 tyres. The Beta Trevi was presented at the Turin Auto Show in May 1980 and at the Birmingham Motor Show in November 1980, developed from the Beta as a restyled three-box notchback (the name stems from the Italian "Tre Volumi") to help re-establish Lancia's credibility after the rusting Beta debacle, with the Beta sold for two years alongside it as the Beta Berlina. It was initially available with a 1600 and a 2000, both with Weber or Solex carburettors, Bosch electronic ignition arrived in 1981 on the 2000IE (122 CV at 6400 rpm compared with 115 CV at 5500 rpm), and the most powerful Volumex (VX), introduced in 1982 at the Turin motor show, added a twin-scroll Roots-type supercharger and carburettors for 135 CV, making the Trevi the first car with a mechanically driven supercharger in nearly five decades. By April 1983 it was only available as a 1.6 saloon; 40,628 were produced (the Beta Trevi 1980–1983 and Trevi 1983–1984).

It briefly served as senior sibling to Marquette, a GM companion brand cancelled after just one year.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
