The Aventador S, unveiled on 19 December 2016 at the Sant'Agata factory and officially revealed at the March 2017 Geneva Motor Show, updated the Aventador with exterior changes by Mitja Borkert and mechanical changes including four-wheel steering. Its 6.5-litre V12 makes 740 PS, 40 PS more than the original, and it has 130 percent more front downforce. The S Roadster followed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, mechanically identical to the coupé with two removable carbon-fibre roof panels.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.
