FactBarely a year after its 2024 launch, the compact Kia EV3 was named 2025 World Car of the Year, beating out far pricier rivals in its first full year on sale.
The Kia EV3 is a battery-electric C-segment compact crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Kia since 2024 (South Korea, Sohari plant; also Monterrey, Mexico), the fourth model in Kia's "EV" line-up and its second dedicated EV on a 400-volt architecture after the EV5. It was previewed by the EV3 Concept on 12 October 2023 at Kia EV Day (then the LA show in November), unveiled in production form on 23 May 2024 with sales starting in South Korea in July 2024; designed by Karim Habib in the "Opposites United" language with a "Digital Tiger Face" and "Star Map" lighting, on a chassis derived from the front-wheel-drive Hyundai-Kia K3 platform marketed as E-GMP 400 V. It has a 460 L boot with a two-tier floor, three displays (a 12-inch cluster, a 5-inch HVAC touchscreen and a 12-inch infotainment screen), PET and recycled fabric interior materials, a 12-inch head-up display, and a fold-back relaxation mode. Power is 150 kW (201 hp) with front-wheel drive or 230 kW (308 hp) with dual-motor all-wheel drive, batteries of 58.3 or 81.4 kWh NMC and a range up to 600 km (WLTP; not entered). The predecessors were the Soul EV (global) and Niro EV (North America).

Owning one
An estimate, for the EV3 dual motor AWD (230 kW, 308 hp) trim: fuel on its EPA figure and a dated national price, upkeep on a per-mile average for the kind of car it is.
