The Hyundai Galloper (Galloper Exceed, Innovation, Mitsubishi Galloper, Asia Galloper, Hawtai Jitian) is a full-size SUV made by Hyundai from 1991 to 2004, a localised version of the first-generation Mitsubishi Pajero, championed by Chung Mong-koo of Hyundai Precision Industry (production lines for the first Pajero were transferred to Hyundai Precision when the second Pajero appeared in 1991 and assembly began in September 1991 in Ulsan; Hyundai Motor made the engines, transmissions and body panels). It launched as the Standard (5-seat, short wheelbase) or Exceed (6-seat, long wheelbase) with a 2.5 L naturally-aspirated D4BA diesel (73 hp at 4200 rpm, 14.9 kg·m / 108 lb·ft at 2500 rpm) and a 5-speed manual, with an automatic from November and a D4BF turbodiesel (81 hp) in December 1991; a 3.0 L G6AT V6 petrol was added in February 1992 and in 1993 an intercooler turned the turbodiesel into the D4BH with 101 hp. It has a double-wishbone and torsion-bar front suspension, a live axle on asymmetric leaf springs at the rear, ventilated front discs and drums with a load-sensing valve. A mild restyle in 1994 brought square headlights and added a nine-seat body; export began in 1994 (China first), the 100,000th car came in December 1994, and in 1997 European markets received it as a left-hand-drive-only vehicle after about 220,000 had been built. The "Marco Polo" expedition to Portugal advertised its capability.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

The restyled Galloper II looked like it was chasing the all-new second-generation Mitsubishi Pajero — but underneath, it was mechanically almost unchanged from the first Galloper.

IIHS only crash-tests the driver's corner; tested on the passenger side instead, the CX-5 showed far worse intrusion.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.

The L405 was the first Range Rover with a fully aluminum monocoque body, cutting up to 420 kg from the outgoing steel-bodied L322.

Rear passengers get a 17.3-inch screen that extends from the roof, and a lidar sensor sits in the front of the roof.

Its range-extender variant is rated for 1,200 km on a tank and charge, over three times the car's electric-only range.
