The Ford Probe was completely redesigned for the 1993 model year by merged Ford and Mazda teams, sharing its under-structure with the Mazda MX-6 and 626 on the GE platform; Mazda engineered the engine, transmission and chassis and Ford the body and interior. Though longer and two inches wider, it was 125 pounds lighter than the first generation. It was a three-door liftback with a 118 hp 2.0 litre four or a 164 hp 2.5 litre V6 in the GT. Production ended on 20 June 1997.
