The first-generation Ford Probe was based on the Mazda GD platform and built with Mazda in Flat Rock, Michigan, debuting in 1988 for the 1989 model year and produced until 1992. It was a three-door liftback, offered in the United States in GL, LX and GT trims. The base engine was a 2.2 litre SOHC 12-valve Mazda F2 four of 110 hp; the GT had a 145 hp turbocharged version, and the LX a 3.0 litre Vulcan V6.
