The Fiat Siena is the four-door sedan of the Palio (type 178), launched in Argentina in late 1996 and in Brazil in August 1997 because hatchbacks sold so well in developing countries, later sold worldwide (as the Petra in India, Palio Sedan in Mexico, Dodge Forza and Vision, Pyeonghwa Hwiparam in North Korea and, in 2002–2006, the Nanjing Fiat Perla), and in Europe from 2002 as the Albea. The range began with Fiasa and Fire 1.0 to 1.6-litre gasoline engines; a 2000 facelift by Giugiaro added new fascias, an interior, 16-valve Fire engines of 70 hp (1.0) and 82 hp (1.2) and a Speedgear CVT in Turkey and China; the 2004 facelift (also by Giugiaro) made it the first Brazilian compact sedan with four airbags, an auto-dimming mirror, rain sensor and park assistance, with a 1.3 Fire 16-valve, a new 1.4 Fire 8-valve of 80 hp and a 1.8 GM Powertrain 8-valve of 112 PS shared with the Chevrolet Corsa (112 hp on gasoline and 114 hp on alcohol at 5,500 rpm in the flex version); a 2007 facelift gave it its own front design, apart from the Palio, and a Tetrafuel 1.4. It sold over 800,000 in Brazil over 14 years, and the Albea also gained a 1.3 Multijet diesel of 70 bhp.
