FactTaruna means young in Balinese, chosen for a Terios built with an extended tail just to fit a third row.
The Daihatsu Taruna was a version of the first-generation Terios built by Astra Daihatsu Motor in Sunter, Jakarta for Indonesia, with different styling and an extended rear end able to take third-row seats; "taruna" is the Balinese word for "young". Introduced on 1 July 1999, it began as the short-wheelbase C-series (internal code F500) with dual-side-facing third-row seats in a 5+2 layout, powered by the 1.6-litre carburetted HD-C (as also used in the locally assembled F70 Feroza and Zebra Espass), in CL, CX and CSX grades; the CSR grade with the fuel-injected 1.6-litre HD-E was added in April 2000, and there were CSX Limited and G Limited editions in 1999–2000. In August 2001 Daihatsu added the long-wheelbase F-series (F520, previewed by the TX-F concept at the 2000 Gaikindo Auto Expo) with front-facing third-row seats in FL, FX, FGX and FGZ grades, while the C-series received a fuel-injected 1.5-litre HE-E replacing the HD-C; the HD-E and the CSR and FGZ grades were dropped in 2002. Facelifts came in July 2003, March 2004 (vertical grille, five-seat only C-series) and March 2005 (sold as the Taruna Oxxy), and production ended in late 2006, replaced about a month later by the F700 Terios.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

IIHS only crash-tests the driver's corner; tested on the passenger side instead, the CX-5 showed far worse intrusion.

Despite launching from a standing start in late 2025, the i60 topped GAC Aion's own sales chart through January's seasonal slowdown.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.

Subaru built a 2.5XT for the National Ski Patrol with a diamond-plate floor, a 9,500-pound winch and a toboggan on the roof.

The L405 was the first Range Rover with a fully aluminum monocoque body, cutting up to 420 kg from the outgoing steel-bodied L322.

Rear passengers get a 17.3-inch screen that extends from the roof, and a lidar sensor sits in the front of the roof.

Its range-extender variant is rated for 1,200 km on a tank and charge, over three times the car's electric-only range.
