The A200/A250 series Daihatsu Rocky is a subcompact crossover SUV unveiled at the 46th Tokyo Motor Show on 23 October 2019 as the "New Compact SUV" and on sale from 5 November 2019, replacing the Be-go in Japan; it is rebadged as the Toyota Raize (replacing the J200 Rush), the Subaru Rex (Japan only, from 11 November 2022) and the Perodua Ativa in Malaysia (from February 2021, model code A270, built 95 percent locally and 70 mm longer, 20 mm wider and 15 mm taller than the Japanese car), and built in Japan (Ryuo, Shiga), Indonesia (Karawang) and Malaysia (Rawang). It is on Daihatsu's DNGA-A platform (related to the Ayla A350 and Perodua Axia A300), previewed by the 2017 DN Trec concept, developed from around 2017 under chief engineer Nobuhiko Ono, and positioned below the Yaris Cross; the Japanese A200 is under 1.7 m wide to stay a compact car, the A250 Indonesian model has a more pronounced rear bumper, a metal tailgate and a slightly wider body. Wheelbase 2,525 mm (99.4 in), length 3,995 mm (Japan) / 4,030 mm (international), front-engine, front-wheel drive (four-wheel drive in Japan only), with a five-speed manual or the Dual-Mode CVT (D-CVT). Engines: the 1.0-litre 1KR-VET turbo three-cylinder (72 kW / 97 hp, 140 N·m), the naturally aspirated 1.2-litre WA-VE three-cylinder (64–65 kW / 86–87 hp, 113 N·m) and the series-hybrid 1.2-litre WA-VEX ("e-Smart Hybrid" for Daihatsu, Hybrid Synergy Drive for Toyota: 60 kW engine acting as a generator for the 78 kW / 105 hp, 170 N·m E1A motor, 4.3 Ah lithium-ion battery). In Japan the Rocky came in L, X, G and Premium grades with the 1KR-VET and optional four-wheel drive; in November 2021 the G grade was dropped, the Premium became Premium G, the front-wheel-drive 1KR-VET was replaced by the WA-VE and the hybrid arrived (X and Premium G, front-wheel drive only). The Indonesian Rocky and Raize went on sale on 30 April 2021 (exported to 50 countries), and Latin NCAP 3.5 gave the 2024 Raize 41% adult and 72% child occupant protection.

We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Same body, same money, other badges — tap any card to flip.

IIHS only crash-tests the driver's corner; tested on the passenger side instead, the CX-5 showed far worse intrusion.

Despite launching from a standing start in late 2025, the i60 topped GAC Aion's own sales chart through January's seasonal slowdown.

Every Defender before this one was body-on-frame — this generation broke decades of tradition with an aluminium unibody structure instead.

Crashed on the passenger side instead of the driver's, the 2014 Forester showed far more intrusion and would have rated Marginal with the IIHS.

Subaru built a 2.5XT for the National Ski Patrol with a diamond-plate floor, a 9,500-pound winch and a toboggan on the roof.

The L405 was the first Range Rover with a fully aluminum monocoque body, cutting up to 420 kg from the outgoing steel-bodied L322.

Rear passengers get a 17.3-inch screen that extends from the roof, and a lidar sensor sits in the front of the roof.

Its range-extender variant is rated for 1,200 km on a tank and charge, over three times the car's electric-only range.
