The VH Valiant Pacer (now only a four-door sedan) had vivid paint colours, optional bonnet blackouts and striping and a higher-performance version of the 265 ci Hemi-6 producing 218 bhp at 4,800 rpm and 273 lb·ft at 3,000 rpm; it could run the quarter-mile in 15.9 seconds, reached 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and had a top speed of 185 km/h. At its release it set the record as the fastest mass-produced four-door six-cylinder sedan made in Australia, a record that stood for 17 years, with only 1,647 built, and the same year saw the introduction of the Valiant Charger, which took over the performance image.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Chrysler never published power figures for any VG Pacer, leaving buyers to judge the four state of tune options on options alone.
At $2798 the Pacer undercut the base V8 Monaro GTS by $400, using nothing but a tuned six to nearly match it.
