The first-generation Chevrolet Cruze (model code J300) was a global compact built from 2008 to 2016 on the GM Delta II platform shared with the Opel Astra and Buick Verano, sold in South Korea at first as the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere and in Australasia as the Holden Cruze. It was assembled in South Korea, the United States (Lordstown, 2011–2016), Brazil, China, India, Russia, Thailand and elsewhere, as a sedan, hatchback and station wagon; North America had it for the 2011–2015 model years plus a 2016 Cruze Limited. Petrol engines were 1.4 turbo, 1.6 and 1.8 fours, and diesels ran to a 2.0 litre, the U.S. version of which made 148 hp.

A Cleveland dealer offered GM a five-year deal to keep Lordstown open and run Cruzes as a ridesharing fleet; GM said no.

By its final 2019 update, the Cruze had quietly dropped manual transmissions entirely — even the base L trim, which had been manual-only, switched to automatic across the board.
