FactBYD said a naming contest would settle what to call its flagship SUV, with Tang 9 the main alternative to Datang.
The BYD Datang ("Great Tang") is a full-size SUV and the flagship of BYD's Dynasty line, built since 2026 on the Super e-Platform with six or seven seats. It was previewed by the Dynasty-D concept at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show and, after its launch was pushed back to the second quarter of 2026, drew over 100,000 pre-orders after opening at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. It is offered as a battery electric car with one or two motors and as an all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine. It has dual-chamber air suspension and four-wheel steering.
