FactThe 1900 was a trio of firsts for Alfa Romeo: its first car built entirely on a production line, its first without a separate chassis, and the first Alfa ever offered with left-hand drive.
The Alfa Romeo 1900 is an automobile produced by Alfa Romeo from 1950 until 1959, designed by Orazio Satta, an important development for the marque as its first car built entirely on a production line and its first production car without a separate chassis; it was also the first Alfa Romeo offered with left-hand drive, and was introduced at the 1950 Paris Motor Show. The two- or four-door models had a new 1,884 cc, 90 hp four-cylinder twin-cam engine, and the slogan was "The family car that wins races", alluding to its success in the Targa Florio and other competitions. In 1951 the short-wheelbase 1900C (c for corto) was introduced, along with the 1900 TI with a more powerful 100 hp engine with bigger valves, a higher compression ratio and two twin-choke carburettors; two years later the 1900 Super and 1900 TI Super (also 1900 Super Sprint) arrived with a 1975 cc engine (bore increased to 84.5 mm) raising output to 115 hp. Transmission was a 4-speed manual on basic versions and a 5-speed on the Super Sprint, with drum brakes, independent front suspension and a live rear axle. Production at Milan continued until 1959, a total of 21,304 being built, including 17,390 saloons; the chassis was designed to let coachbuilders rebody it, most notably Zagato's 1900 Super Sprint coupé and Touring's Sprint, and the 1900M AR51 "Matta" is a four-wheel-drive off-road vehicle based on the 1900 series.

Nissan hired former BMW engineers to help develop the 510's suspension, which is why period reviewers frequently compared its handling to the BMW 1600/2002.

A Trabant 601 won its class at the 1970 Monte Carlo Rally, with a second 601 right behind it in second.

The 600 was a stopgap: the P50's body over the 601's mechanicals, and for a while its estate was built alongside the new 601 saloon.

The G80 Sport brought a 370 PS twin-turbo 3.3 V6, a mesh grille and copper-tinted chrome with copper stitching to match.

The Vigor was sold only with a five-cylinder engine, an unusual configuration Honda used to fit a longer engine transversely under a short hood.

The GS/E coupe earned the nickname "German Charger" for its long hood, short deck stance borrowed from Detroit muscle cars.

This DeVille/Fleetwood was the first production car anywhere to mount its V8 sideways, Cadillac's front-drive gamble on the new C-body.
