The Grantura Mark II had MGA engines as standard, though customers could still pick other power units; the Mark IIa used the 1,622 cc MGA Mark II or a Ford 1,340 cc engine, with the more expensive 1,216 cc Coventry Climax FWA (as in the Lotus Elite) also available, front disc brakes standard and rack-and-pinion steering standardised. The British magazine The Motor tested a 1,600 cc MGA-engined car in 1961 at 98.4 mph with 0–60 mph in twelve seconds and 32.8 mpg (imperial), the test car costing £1,298 with taxes. About 400 Mark II/IIa Granturas were built.

The late Grantura's chassis was reworked to also underpin the V8-engined Griffith — TVR's modest sports car and its big-engined sibling shared the same bones.

The Grantura had no rear trunk opening at all — accessing the boot meant reaching in from inside the car, and pulling the spare wheel out through the front doors.

TVR's very first production car, the Grantura Mark I, ran independent rear suspension cobbled together from a VW Beetle, an MGA differential and Austin-Healey brakes — years before most rivals ditched the solid axle.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
