The Toyota Yaris Verso is a mini MPV produced by Toyota using the Yaris nameplate from August 1999 to October 2005; in Japan it is the Toyota FunCargo (announced 30 August 1999) and in the Philippines and Hong Kong the Echo Verso. It is built on the same NBC platform as the XP10 Yaris/Vitz/Echo, with a wheelbase 130 mm (5.1 in) longer than the Yaris, and came from a concept shown at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show. The instrument cluster sits in the centre, ISOFIX-compatible rear seats were standard from the start and the rear seat has underfloor and forward storage, the largest cabin volume of any compact car at the time. It was offered with 1.3- and 1.5-litre petrol engines and, from 2001, a 1.4-litre D-4D turbodiesel; in Japan there was a four-wheel-drive version of the 1.5 (NCP25) and all cars there had a four-speed automatic. It shared the 20th (1999-2000) Japan Car of the Year with the Vitz and Platz; Toyota Modellista International sold a limited edition of 350 "VF130" cars; the FunCargo was facelifted in August 2002 and production ended September 2005 (the UK nickname was "ice cream van" for its boxy shape). Successors: Ractis (Japan) and Verso-S (Europe). Wheelbase 98.4 in; the length, width, height and weight ranges and the 1.3 and 1.5 petrol power ranges are not entered.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Cooling the C6 RS6’s twin-turbo V10 took seven separate radiators and four electric fans under the bonnet.

The original RS6 debuted Audi's clever hydraulic Dynamic Ride Control suspension — and enough owners got tired of its leaking dampers that they ripped the whole system out for plain coilovers.

The C7-generation RS6 Avant never officially reached America at all — buyers there got the RS7 Sportback instead, running the exact same engine and platform in a different body.

For a few years, this Outback's six-cylinder trim came with genuine McIntosh audio — the same esteemed hi-fi name found in home theaters, one of the only cars ever to get it from the factory.

Subaru didn't have the budget for an all-new SUV, so it dressed up a Legacy wagon instead. A Subaru of America executive later put it bluntly: "[the Outback] saved our company."

The new Outback's full-width tail light bar has a 2 ft ruler built in, for measuring whatever you are about to load.

This Outback shared Top Gear's Car of the Year crown — an unusual honor for a jacked-up wagon to split with the Ford Mondeo in 2007.

A wagon beat the SUVs at their own game: this Outback generation won Motor Trend's Sport/Utility of the Year award for 2010.
