Based on the first-generation Vitz hatchback, the first Ist also shared a platform with the Platz sedan, and was developed from the Vitz in a crossover SUV bodystyle. It first appeared at the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show and went on sale on 8 May 2002, with 42,000 orders received in Japan at its introduction; the model codes are NCP60 (1300, 2NZ, FWD), NCP61 (1500, 1NZ, FWD) and NCP65 (1500, 1NZ, 4WD). It received its facelift on 30 May 2005, and was sold as a Scion in North America (xA) and as the xA in the Middle East. It was offered with a TRD-tuned turbocharged 1NZ-FE as a dealer-installed option, not a separate trim level, and production ran from May 2002 to July 2007.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.
