FactWhen this Auris added a hybrid in 2010, it was built at Toyota's Burnaston plant in the UK — making it the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle ever built in Europe.
Introduced in 2006, the first-generation Auris three/five-door hatchback shared the platform with the E150 series Corolla; the more luxurious version was named the Toyota Blade in Japan, and it succeeded the Allex and the Corolla RunX there. The Japanese model went on sale at Netz dealerships on 23 October 2006, with European models following in early 2007, and in Europe Toyota positioned the Auris as the replacement for the Corolla hatchback. Exterior styling was done by ED², Toyota's European design base in southern France, and it received a five-star Euro NCAP cabin protection rating for adults. Trim levels in Japan were 150X, 180G and RS, and the Blade Master carried a 3.5-litre V6.

Japan was a minor market for the Swift: when it passed 2 million sales in 2011, about 39% were in India and 27% in Europe, against roughly 15% at home.

To adapt the Horizon for America, Chrysler bought nearly 100 Volkswagen Rabbits purely to reverse engineer them.

The Mk3 Focus RS's AWD system could send 100 percent of engine power to the rear wheels alone — built not in Ford's home country, but at the Saarlouis plant in Germany.

In June 2003, a Mégane II became the subject of the first ever live televised crash test with a real human driver at the wheel instead of a dummy — filmed by Top Gear.
