FactBy 2020, barely six years into its run, Škoda had already built a million third-generation Fabias — a huge number for what's usually dismissed as just a budget supermini.
Introduced at the Paris Motor Show in October 2014 with sales starting the following month (production began in Mladá Boleslav before the end of August 2014, the estate in December), on the PQ26 platform, a mixture of the Polo Mk5's PQ25 and the MQB. The chassis is 90 mm wider and 30 mm lower than the Mk2, with a longer wheelbase despite being 8 mm shorter, and weighs 65 kg less. It was the "Overall winner" and "Best small car" at the 2015 What Car? Car of the Year awards. Because sales of the previous RS were low, no hot hatch was planned. The 2019 facelift reorganised the trims, added a new grille, headlights and optional full-LED lights and dropped the 1.4 TDI; hatchback production ended in June 2021, the Combi carried on as the "Tour" until November 2022, and the diesels had been removed from the range.

A budget Czech hatchback embarrassed a premium badge: this Fabia RS was clocked quicker than a similarly priced MINI Cooper around both Top Gear's and Fifth Gear's test tracks.

An Austrian economy driver nursed a Fabia GreenLine to 2,006 km on one tank — 2.21 L/100km, nearly triple the official combined-cycle figure.

This Fabia RS wasn't just a diesel hot hatch option — it was the first hot hatch ever sold with NO petrol version at all.
