The Renault 5 E-Tech is a B-segment battery electric car produced by Renault since 2024, inspired in styling by the original Renault 5, previewed by a concept car shown in January 2021 and officially unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in February 2024. Development began from an orange life-size design mockup by designer François Leboine that was presented to Renault CEO Luca de Meo in July 2020, and the prototype became a symbol of Renault's "Renaulution" electric car strategy. Renault cut normal development time from four years to three by using the CMF-B platform as the base, with around 1,100 parts, many shared with other CMF-B vehicles such as the Clio V. Variants with the 40 kWh battery have 70 kW or 90 kW motors, while the 52 kWh battery is paired with a 110 kW motor; the charging port is mounted on the bonnet, behind a door designed to resemble the air intake on the original R5. It had a very successful sales start, becoming one of the best-selling EVs in Europe, and by December 2025 the 100,000th unit had been manufactured at Douai; the same platform underpins the Alpine A290 hot hatch. It is produced at Renault ElectriCity in northern France.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

The Supercinq-era Renault 5 GT Turbo holds a rally record nothing has matched since: its 1989 Rallye Côte d'Ivoire win remains the only outright WRC victory ever taken by a Group N (showroom-spec) car.

Its designer Michel Boue died of cancer within a year of the launch, having sketched the car in his spare time.
