FactSEAT set a front-wheel-drive Nürburgring record with the Leon Cupra 280 — so Renault built the 275 Trophy-R specifically to steal it back, and reclaimed the title just weeks later.
Unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show on the third-generation Mégane, with the 2.0 twin-scroll turbo F4Rt at 250 PS (247 bhp) and a Cup variant with a stiffer chassis, limited-slip differential and red calipers. In June 2011 the limited R.S. 265 Trophy (500 built, 265 PS from more turbo boost, new intake) set an 8:08 Nürburgring lap, 9 seconds under the R26.R; the 265 replaced the 250 in the standard car in 2011 (after Renault won a French Gendarmerie tender for a 261 bhp pursuit car) and appeared as Red Bull RB7 (522 built) and RB8 (120) editions. The 2014 facelift changed the grille, bumpers and lights (no mechanical change), and the 275 Trophy-R (273 PS with an Akrapovič exhaust, 101 kg lighter at 1,280 kg, no rear seats, air-conditioning or stereo) retook the Nürburgring front-drive record with 7:54.36. Australian specials included the Monaco Grand Prix, Australian GP, Trophy 8:08 (100) and R.S. Sport Limited Edition (50).

This generation of Mégane RS had an actual Formula 1 driver on the development team — Renault's own Nico Hulkenberg helped tune it.

The hot-hatch Mégane RS shares its bones with an unlikely relative: the Nissan Sentra B16 sold in North America rode on the same Mégane II platform.

Japan was a minor market for the Swift: when it passed 2 million sales in 2011, about 39% were in India and 27% in Europe, against roughly 15% at home.

To adapt the Horizon for America, Chrysler bought nearly 100 Volkswagen Rabbits purely to reverse engineer them.

The Mk3 Focus RS's AWD system could send 100 percent of engine power to the rear wheels alone — built not in Ford's home country, but at the Saarlouis plant in Germany.

In June 2003, a Mégane II became the subject of the first ever live televised crash test with a real human driver at the wheel instead of a dummy — filmed by Top Gear.

This Wagon R redesigned its rear doors specifically to kill off the D-pillar — bigger doors with built-in quarter glass solved what earlier generations needed a whole extra pillar for.

The BX was the UK's best-selling diesel car for four years from 1987, and 2,315,739 were built in all.

Six months before Suzuki retired the Fronte name for good, the CN11S's 796cc version was already being built in China under a completely different name: the Anchi 6330.

Built to use up Chrysler-Simca's parts bin, it took its engine and gearbox straight from the front-wheel-drive Simca 1100 but mounted them amidships instead.
