FactThis Laguna shared its bones with unlikely relatives — the Nissan Altima, Teana, and Murano all rode the same ‘D’ platform — and it was the first car put through Renault’s new electromagnetic compatibility test unit.
Announced in a press release on 4 June 2007, unveiled at the September 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show and on sale from October 2007 for the 2008 model year, on the Renault–Nissan D platform shared with the Nissan Altima, Teana and Murano and the Renault Latitude and Samsung SM5. It was the first Laguna offered as a two-door coupé (the production version revealed at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and shown to the public at the Paris show that October; 54,840 were built of 351,384 Lagunas in total), alongside the five-door hatchback and estate. The new V6 dCi diesel gave 235 hp and the 3.5-litre petrol V6 gave 238 hp. A Phase 2 facelift debuted at the 2010 Paris Motor Show with sales from November 2010, adding a 1.5 dCi 110 hp with lower CO2 (the GT 4Control trim keeps four-wheel steering). Right-hand-drive production ended in February 2012, and the Talisman replaced the Laguna and Latitude in 2015.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

This Laguna beat nearly every European car to keyless entry and ignition, a Valeo-developed system so unreliable it ended up dinging Renault's reputation instead.

In 1996 Renault built just 500 Laguna 1.8 RT Sports, a hundred in each of five colours, including a metallic blue normally kept for the bigger-engined 2.0.
