The Mitsubishi Xpander is a compact multi-purpose vehicle manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors since 2017 and marketed as a "crossover MPV" (the carmaker calls it a "Small Crossover MPV" with a design said to be inspired by crossover SUVs and the Dynamic Shield philosophy). Previewed by the XM Concept at the 24th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show in August 2016, it was unveiled in Jakarta on 24 July 2017, debuted at the 25th GIIAS on 10 August 2017 and went on sale in Indonesia on 3 October 2017, where it is built at the MMKI plant in Cikarang, West Java as a high-volume model; production was raised from 5,000 to 10,000 units a month by early 2018 to meet unexpectedly high demand, 104,000 were sold globally in 2018 and 114,000 in 2019 against an initial target of 80,000 a year, and it was Mitsubishi's fourth best-selling model in 2018 and 2019 and third in 2021. It is sold mainly in emerging countries in Southeast Asia and several Latin American, African and Middle Eastern markets, and Nissan sells a rebadged and redesigned version as the second-generation Livina since February 2019. The more rugged Xpander Cross (225 mm ground clearance) followed in Indonesia on 12 November 2019. It has a 1.5-litre 4A91 petrol engine with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic, CVT replacing the automatic from the 2021 facelift in markets like Indonesia and Thailand; in February 2024 an Xpander HEV with an in-house hybrid system (a 1.6-litre 4A92 Atkinson-cycle engine, an electric motor, a 1.1 kWh lithium-ion battery and an eCVT) was introduced in Thailand, built by MMTh to take advantage of the country's hybrid tax incentive.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Cooling the C6 RS6’s twin-turbo V10 took seven separate radiators and four electric fans under the bonnet.

The original RS6 debuted Audi's clever hydraulic Dynamic Ride Control suspension — and enough owners got tired of its leaking dampers that they ripped the whole system out for plain coilovers.

The C7-generation RS6 Avant never officially reached America at all — buyers there got the RS7 Sportback instead, running the exact same engine and platform in a different body.

For a few years, this Outback's six-cylinder trim came with genuine McIntosh audio — the same esteemed hi-fi name found in home theaters, one of the only cars ever to get it from the factory.

Subaru didn't have the budget for an all-new SUV, so it dressed up a Legacy wagon instead. A Subaru of America executive later put it bluntly: "[the Outback] saved our company."

The new Outback's full-width tail light bar has a 2 ft ruler built in, for measuring whatever you are about to load.

This Outback shared Top Gear's Car of the Year crown — an unusual honor for a jacked-up wagon to split with the Ford Mondeo in 2007.

A wagon beat the SUVs at their own game: this Outback generation won Motor Trend's Sport/Utility of the Year award for 2010.
