FactMercedes sold this B-Class worldwide except in the one market it was built for profit in: the United States.
The Mercedes-Benz B-Class is a subcompact executive car based on the A-Class with larger dimensions, classified by Euro NCAP as a small MPV; the first generation (W245) was built at Rastatt from June 2005 to 2011 and followed the 2004 Paris Motor Show Vision B Compact Sports Tourer concept. It was introduced in Europe, Australia and other parts of the world in early 2005 (Canada in late 2005) and marketed globally except in the United States, where it could not be price-matched for profit. It uses front-wheel drive with sandwich floor construction, parabolic rear suspension and a two-box design, maximising interior volume via its height; all models included ESP, ABS, traction control, cornering lights, an active lighting system and headlamp assist, and in a frontal impact the engine and transmission slide beneath the passenger compartment. In 2008 it was updated with a start-stop system and a BlueEFFICIENCY option, and an NGT variant that could burn either petrol or natural gas was added; in 2011 a B-Class F-Cell was one of three Mercedes F-Cell vehicles driven more than 30,000 km around the world. Engines: petrol 1.5 L, 1.7 L, 2.0 L and 2.0 L turbo (M266) and a 2.0 L OM640 CDI turbodiesel, with 5/6-speed manual or CVT; the B160 and B180 conform to Euro V, the rest to Euro IV, and a diesel particulate filter was optional. Length 4,270 mm (168.1 in), width 1,778 mm (70.0 in). The page's two power tables disagree by 1–3 hp for most engines (and on the B150/B160's torque and top speed), so no power is entered; torque and top speed are entered only where both tables agree.
