The 2.2-litre Murena could also be ordered with a performance package, the "Préparation 142", that raised power from 118 PS (87 kW) to 142 PS (104 kW) with a custom-profile camshaft and twin Solex 40 ADDHE side-draught carburetors on a four-runner intake; it was offered in 1982, initially as a dealer-installed option, and the last 480 Murenas came with this uprated engine directly from the factory as the Murena S, the only version offered in model year 1984. Its 2,155 cc Type 180 SOHC four made 142 PS (140 hp) at 6000 rpm and 183 N·m (135 lb-ft) at 3800 rpm with 9.5:1 compression, giving a top speed of 210 km/h (130.5 mph) and 0-100 km/h in 8.4 seconds, with 260.9 mm rear discs and 185/60VR14 front and 195/60VR14 rear tires. A 16-valve "4S" prototype developed 178 PS (131 kW) at 6,000 rpm.
