FactLancia's first new model in over a decade turned out to be its first electric car as well.
The fourth-generation Lancia Ypsilon (Type L21) is the first new Lancia model since 2011 and the brand's first electric car, built at Zaragoza in Spain since 2024. Revealed in February 2024, it shares the CMP/eCMP platform with the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa and is the first production Lancia in the Pu+Ra design language. It is offered as a 1.2 turbo mild hybrid, a battery-electric version of 156 PS, and from 2026 a non-hybrid Turbo 100 with a 6-speed manual. A high-performance Ypsilon HF followed in 2025.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Lancia's first new model in over a decade turned out to be its first electric car as well.

Sold in Britain as a Chrysler, not a Lancia, because the brand had quit right-hand-drive markets entirely.

This Ypsilon's design reaches back to 1939: Lancia shaped its three-door body as a tribute to the historic Lancia Ardea, and it went on to become the brand's best-seller.

Developing the first Ypsilon cost around 400 billion lira, and it still scored just two stars in Euro NCAP.

Japan was a minor market for the Swift: when it passed 2 million sales in 2011, about 39% were in India and 27% in Europe, against roughly 15% at home.

To adapt the Horizon for America, Chrysler bought nearly 100 Volkswagen Rabbits purely to reverse engineer them.

The Mk3 Focus RS's AWD system could send 100 percent of engine power to the rear wheels alone — built not in Ford's home country, but at the Saarlouis plant in Germany.

In June 2003, a Mégane II became the subject of the first ever live televised crash test with a real human driver at the wheel instead of a dummy — filmed by Top Gear.

This Wagon R redesigned its rear doors specifically to kill off the D-pillar — bigger doors with built-in quarter glass solved what earlier generations needed a whole extra pillar for.
