FactThe LP 560-4's V10 fires unevenly by design, a departure built into Lamborghini's biggest Gallardo update.
The Gallardo LP 560-4, presented at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, was a significant update with a new uneven-firing 5.2-litre V10 of 560 PS, direct injection that cut fuel use and CO2 by 18%, styling inspired by the Murciélago LP 640 and Reventón, and a faster E-gear with launch control. The LP 560-4 Spyder followed at the 2008 LA Auto Show. The rear-wheel-drive LP 550-2 coupé was offered from the 2011 model year as the cheapest Gallardo, and an LP 550-2 Spyder was introduced in 2012. The last Gallardo was built in November 2013.

Lamborghini recalled about 1,500 early Gallardos over power steering fluid that could leak and catch fire.

The Gallardo has a supercar-sized annoyance at the pump: its top-mounted fuel port doesn't play nice with the anti-vapor sheath on most American gas pumps, so owners learned to pull it back by hand.

The Gallardo is named not for a bull but for an 18th-century breeder of fighting bulls.

The Celica XX, Japan's name for the A60 Supra, introduced the world's first in-car navigation computer.

The CTR Anniversary looks like a 911 but Ruf built its carbon monocoque from scratch, no Porsche body underneath.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
