FactThe Lele IR6 Sport wasn't just a trim level — it traces back to two one-off cars Bizzarrini built for Iso's own Formula One drivers, Howden Ganley and Nanni Galli.
The Lele IR6 Sport of 1973 joined the standard Lele IR6 with an engine modified to 360 hp (268 kW), available only with the ZF 5-speed transmission, a compression ratio of 8.6:1, a 101.6 × 88.9 mm bore and stroke and a 5,800 rpm redline, with sound-deadening removed, a new dashboard and engine modifications. It was based on two bespoke cars Bizzarrini modified from the 351 Cobra Jet for the Iso-Marlboro Formula One team drivers Howden Ganley and Nanni Galli (stripped of creature comforts, with a unique dash; Ganley's in Marlboro Red debuted on the Iso Rivolta stand at the 1973 Geneva show, Galli's was white), and Philip Morris also commissioned at least two "Marlboro Replicas" that were essentially Lele Sports with Marlboro badges.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

The Iso Lele started life as a Christmas present: Piero Rivolta wanted to give one to his wife Rachelle ('Lele') before Iso decided the car was good enough to put into production.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
