FactThe Iso Lele started life as a Christmas present: Piero Rivolta wanted to give one to his wife Rachelle ('Lele') before Iso decided the car was good enough to put into production.
The Iso (Rivolta) Lele is a 2+2 grand tourer built between 1969 and 1974 (285 made) to fill the gap between the Grifo and the Fidia, named after Lele Rivolta, wife of Piero Rivolta (son of founder Renzo), and styled by Marcello Gandini at Bertone; it was a Christmas present that went into production to succeed the IR 300 and compete with the Lamborghini Espada, first shown at the 1969 New York International Auto Show. It used the same Bizzarrini-designed chassis as the IR 300 (double wishbones, de Dion rear with Salisbury axle, four-wheel inboard disc brakes, Koni dampers), ZF power steering as on Maserati, Campagnolo magnesium wheels on 215/70 VP15 Michelins, a leather interior with air conditioning and electric windows, and hidden pop-up headlamps. It first had a 300 or 350 hp General Motors V8 (Chevrolet 327) with a 4-speed Muncie manual (later a ZF 5-speed) or a GM 4-speed automatic; in 1972, after about 125 cars, General Motors demanded advance payment for engines and Iso switched to Ford's Cleveland 351 V8 rated at 325 hp with Ford's automatic — about 160 Ford-engined cars had been built when production stopped in 1974 with Iso's bankruptcy. The Lele IR6 Sport of 1973 and the Marlboro cars are catalogued as their own generation.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

The Lele IR6 Sport wasn't just a trim level — it traces back to two one-off cars Bizzarrini built for Iso's own Formula One drivers, Howden Ganley and Nanni Galli.

The CTR Anniversary looks like a 911 but Ruf built its carbon monocoque from scratch, no Porsche body underneath.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
