FactIn 2021, Ford stripped every combustion-only engine out of the S-Max lineup and replaced them all with a single 2.5L petrol hybrid — one powertrain for the final years of production.
The second-generation Ford S-Max (model code CD539), designed by Claudio Messale on the Ford CD4 platform related to the third-generation Galaxy, second-generation Edge, Lincoln MKZ and Nautilus and fourth-generation Mondeo, was first presented at the 2014 Paris Motor Show and went into production in late 2015 at Almussafes, Spain, after the Galaxy was presented at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. It came with the same engines as the Galaxy, Mondeo and Edge: one diesel in four states of tune and two petrols, the 1.5 SCTi EcoBoost with 160 hp and the 2.0 SCTi with 240 hp (only with the six-speed automatic); all the diesels average over 50 mpg, the best being the 2.0 TDCi Duratorq 120 with 57 mpg, the 2.0 TDCi 150 and 180 came with a six-speed manual or the PowerShift (the 180 also with AWD) and the final Bi-Turbo 2.0 TDCi 210 hits 0–62 in under nine seconds with the PowerShift only. Trim levels mirrored the Galaxy, Mondeo and Edge (Zetec, Titanium, Titanium Sport, plus an executive Vignale). The facelifted S-Max was revealed in 2019 with no petrol engine, only various tunings of the 2.0 EcoBlue diesel; in 2021 all ICE options were dropped and replaced with a 2.5-litre petrol hybrid system outputting 190 PS. Production ended in April 2023 due to sharply declining MPV sales and Ford's shift towards crossovers, SUVs and electrified vehicles, with no direct successor.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

This Presage minivan shares its underlying platform with the Teana sedan and the North American Murano crossover — one architecture doing three very different jobs.

Subaru's family-hauling Exiga got an unlikely STi treatment in 2009 — front spoiler, sport muffler, tighter suspension and a leather Momo wheel — but only 300 were ever built.

YRV stands for Young Recreational Vehicle, a mini MPV built to out-handle its own segment rivals.

The Terraza was Buick's first-ever minivan for the North American market - a badge-engineered cousin of the Chevrolet Uplander, Pontiac Montana SV6, and Saturn Relay.

The restyled 1994 Lumina Minivan quietly made American automotive history: it was the first minivan sold in the US with a power sliding door you could open by remote.

The first-generation Lumina APV minivan was nicknamed the "Dustbuster" by the press for its sharply sloped windshield, which pushed the dashboard far forward of the driver.

Its steeply sloped windshield gave the Lumina APV one of the deepest dashboards ever fitted to a mass-produced car.

The first Presage wasn't really its own car underneath — most of its parts came straight from the Nissan R'nessa, with more shared with its platform twin, the Bassara.
