The second-generation Ford Mustang, marketed as the Mustang II, was introduced on 21 September 1973 for the 1974 model year, at roughly the same time as the oil embargo, and built until 1978 as a two-door coupé and a three-door hatchback. Developed under Lee Iacocca and related to the Ford Pinto, it was named Motor Trend's 1974 Car of the Year and sold more than 1.1 million over four years. For 1974 it had only a 2.3 litre four and a 2.8 litre Cologne V6, the only Mustang year without a V8; the 302 cu in V8 returned for 1975.
