The Fiesta Mk5 is the fifth generation of the Ford Fiesta supermini, built in Europe between April 2002 and 2008, and in Mexico until 2010 and Brazil until 2014. It rode on the Ford B3 platform shared with the Fusion and Mazda2, with front-wheel drive and 3- and 5-door hatchback, saloon and van bodies. Engines ranged from the 1.25 Zetec-SE and 1.3 Endura-E to 1.4 and 1.6 Duratec petrols and 1.4 and 1.6 Duratorq TDCi diesels. The performance Fiesta ST had a 2.0 litre Duratec rated at 150 PS (148 bhp), with a top speed of 129 mph. A revised version was launched in November 2005 for the 2006 model year.

The last Fiesta ever made was built on 7 July 2023, and the final two cars went straight to Ford's heritage fleets in Germany and the UK.

This Fiesta was the test case for Ford's 'One Ford' strategy — one single global car built and sold worldwide instead of separate regional versions, a first for the nameplate.

Top Gear's "serious" road test had Jeremy Clarkson escape a Corvette C6 through a Basingstoke shopping mall and join a Royal Marines beach assault in one.

Its facelifted version was the last Fiesta built at Dagenham, and the final Ford model assembled there before the car plant closed in 2002.

The Mk3 Fiesta's hot XR2i, launched in 1989, was the first Fiesta ever built with a fuel-injected engine — ending the carburettor era for Ford's hatchback hero.

The same 1.6-litre diesel felt sluggish in an Escort — but drop it in the lighter Fiesta Mk2 and it suddenly turned sprightly, outperforming its bigger sibling.

American Mk1 Fiestas didn't share engines with European ones — US buyers got an older 'Crossflow' Kent engine, fitted just to clear emissions rules.

Japan was a minor market for the Swift: when it passed 2 million sales in 2011, about 39% were in India and 27% in Europe, against roughly 15% at home.

To adapt the Horizon for America, Chrysler bought nearly 100 Volkswagen Rabbits purely to reverse engineer them.

The Mk3 Focus RS's AWD system could send 100 percent of engine power to the rear wheels alone — built not in Ford's home country, but at the Saarlouis plant in Germany.

In June 2003, a Mégane II became the subject of the first ever live televised crash test with a real human driver at the wheel instead of a dummy — filmed by Top Gear.

This Wagon R redesigned its rear doors specifically to kill off the D-pillar — bigger doors with built-in quarter glass solved what earlier generations needed a whole extra pillar for.

The BX was the UK's best-selling diesel car for four years from 1987, and 2,315,739 were built in all.

Six months before Suzuki retired the Fronte name for good, the CN11S's 796cc version was already being built in China under a completely different name: the Anchi 6330.

Built to use up Chrysler-Simca's parts bin, it took its engine and gearbox straight from the front-wheel-drive Simca 1100 but mounted them amidships instead.
