FactCordoba wasn't always its own car. In 1970 it was just a one-year appearance package on the Chrysler Newport, five years before "Cordoba" became a model of its own.
The Chrysler Newport Cordoba name was introduced in the spring of 1970 as a specially trimmed individual model based on the full-size Chrysler Newport in two-door or four-door hardtop, a "limited edition luxury car, designed to introduce you to Chrysler": exclusive "Cordoba Gold" paint with matching wheels, wheel covers and grille fascia, textured vinyl side-molding inserts, an "Espanol" vinyl roof of distinctive pattern, an "Aztec" eagle hood ornament, textured antique gold vinyl seats and door panels and special dash and glovebox appliqué ("a quiet Spanish motif"). The US$3,769 base price included the 383 cu in (6.3 L) 200 hp (149 kW; 203 PS) two-barrel carburetor V8; automatic, power steering, H78x15 whitewalls and a "golden tone" AM radio raised it to $4,241.65. A total of 3,741 were produced for 1970 (1,868 two-door and 1,873 four-door hardtops). The name was taken from the show car Cordoba de Oro shown at the 1970 Chicago Auto Show, designed by Elwood Engel.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

The E58-code 360 V8 was the hottest engine Chrysler offered in the 1980 Cordoba — and almost nobody bought it: fewer than 100 were ordered before it was quietly dropped.

The second-gen Cordoba's biggest engine, a 360-cubic-inch V8, found so few takers — fewer than 100 orders — that Chrysler dropped it after a single model year.

The 1979 Cordoba 300's white paint and 300-style grille looked like a trim package -- but Chrysler insisted on marketing it as its own standalone model, never as a "Cordoba 300."

The Cordoba almost wore a Plymouth badge: Chrysler drew it up as the Sebring before moving it upmarket to cash in on personal-luxury margins.

The Celica XX, Japan's name for the A60 Supra, introduced the world's first in-car navigation computer.

The CTR Anniversary looks like a 911 but Ruf built its carbon monocoque from scratch, no Porsche body underneath.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
