FactOnly 16,590 two-door Yeomans were built out of 187,000 Chevy wagons that year, making it the rarest of the 1958 lineup.
The Chevrolet Yeoman is a station wagon produced for the 1958 model year in two-door and four-door forms, both with six-passenger seating. Based on the Delray passenger-car series, it was the entry-level selection in the 1958 Chevrolet wagon lineup, which also included the Brookwood and the Nomad, with minimal interior and exterior trim and limited options. For 1958 Chevrolet models were redesigned longer, lower and heavier than their 1957 predecessors, the first Chevrolet big block V8, the 348 cu in, was now an option, and the design (by Clare MacKichan's team) had a broad grille and quad headlights that helped simulate a "Baby Cadillac", with a fan-shaped alcove on the side panels and single tail lights on the wagon instead of dual (triple on the Impala). The Yeoman used Chevrolet's new "Safety-Girder" cruciform frame, and the Powerglide adopted the safer PRNDL shift quadrant in place of PNDLR. Of the 187,000 1958 Chevrolet wagons built, only 16,590 were 2-door Yeomans (not counting the Delray Sedan Delivery); the Yeoman was dropped with the Delray at the end of 1958, and for 1959 the Brookwood offered a 2-door wagon and became the lowest-priced wagon. Curb weights are given as 3,696 lb (2-door) and 3,743 lb (4-door) without saying which engine, so none is entered; the 283 is listed at 195 to 220 bhp and the 348 at 250 to 350 bhp, ranges with no single rating, so power is left blank.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

Cooling the C6 RS6’s twin-turbo V10 took seven separate radiators and four electric fans under the bonnet.

The original RS6 debuted Audi's clever hydraulic Dynamic Ride Control suspension — and enough owners got tired of its leaking dampers that they ripped the whole system out for plain coilovers.

The C7-generation RS6 Avant never officially reached America at all — buyers there got the RS7 Sportback instead, running the exact same engine and platform in a different body.

For a few years, this Outback's six-cylinder trim came with genuine McIntosh audio — the same esteemed hi-fi name found in home theaters, one of the only cars ever to get it from the factory.

Subaru didn't have the budget for an all-new SUV, so it dressed up a Legacy wagon instead. A Subaru of America executive later put it bluntly: "[the Outback] saved our company."

The new Outback's full-width tail light bar has a 2 ft ruler built in, for measuring whatever you are about to load.

This Outback shared Top Gear's Car of the Year crown — an unusual honor for a jacked-up wagon to split with the Ford Mondeo in 2007.

A wagon beat the SUVs at their own game: this Outback generation won Motor Trend's Sport/Utility of the Year award for 2010.
