The Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is a faster, more powerful version of the Veyron coupé, with 1,200 PS (1,183 hp) at 6,400 rpm and a revised aerodynamic package. In July 2010 it averaged 431.072 km/h (267.856 mph) over two runs at Ehra-Lessien, taking back the production-car speed record, though customer cars are electronically limited to 415 km/h (258 mph). Production was limited to 48 units, five of them World Record Editions with the limiter deactivated.

Bugatti cut the roof off its fastest car, then proved the open-top Veyron could still top 254 mph.

Bugatti shipped the Grand Sport with a spare umbrella as its emergency roof if the main top was left behind.

Even tire service is exotic: Veyron wheels can only be fitted with their special Michelins in France, and the job alone costs $70,000.

The Veyron's top speed of 253 mph was locked behind a separate key, so the car itself decided when you were allowed to see it.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
