The Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse is the targa-top version of the Veyron Super Sport, first unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Its W16 makes 1,200 PS (1,183 hp) at 6,400 rpm, and on normal roads it is electronically limited to 375 km/h (233 mph). In April 2013 a Vitesse reached 408.84 km/h (254.04 mph) at Ehra-Lessien, making it the fastest open-top production car. 92 were produced, the last of them the "La Finale" car shown at Geneva in March 2015.

Owning one

Bugatti cut the roof off its fastest car, then proved the open-top Veyron could still top 254 mph.

Bugatti built five Super Sports with the speed limiter switched off entirely, the only Veyrons sold without one.

Bugatti shipped the Grand Sport with a spare umbrella as its emergency roof if the main top was left behind.

Even tire service is exotic: Veyron wheels can only be fitted with their special Michelins in France, and the job alone costs $70,000.

The Veyron's top speed of 253 mph was locked behind a separate key, so the car itself decided when you were allowed to see it.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
