BMW i3 M (chassis ZA0) is the performance version of the Neue Klasse i3 sedan, named alongside the base NA0/NA8 i3 on its reveal page with a quad-motor, individual-wheel-drive all-wheel-drive layout and a distinct 100 kWh 800V NMC Gen6 cylindrical-cell battery, larger than the standard car's 108.7 kWh pack is described as (both are broadly similar in size; the M pack uses newer-generation cells). BMW has not yet published the i3 M's power, torque, range or performance figures, so this generation is filed with only what its own page states: the chassis code, drivetrain layout and battery, on the i3 NA0's shared sedan body. Filed as its own generation, not a trim of the base i3, per the halo rule for BMW M cars.

The revived i3 can add 263 miles of range in just 10 minutes on a 400kW DC fast charger — numbers the original i3 couldn't have dreamed of.

The i3 REx wasn't just an EV with a backup engine — California regulators created an entirely new category for it, "BEVx," and the i3 was the first car to ever qualify.
