Toyota capped the fourth-gen Alphard at 5 metres long and 1.85 wide just to fit Japan's automated parking towers.

The AH30 Alphard swapped its old torsion-beam rear axle for a double-wishbone setup, flattening the floor enough to let the second-row seats slide a full 1,160mm fore and aft.

The Royal Lounge option stripped out the rear of a 3.5 Alphard and fitted just two first-class seats, for a limousine ride.

Toyota gave the first Alphard curvy styling to make it look smaller than it was, aiming it at buyers aged 30 to 40.
