Unlike its Accord cousin and nearly every other front-drive Honda, this Ascot mounted its engine longitudinally, front-to-back, to balance weight between the axles instead of side-to-side.
Honda flew in Hollywood star Geena Davis to front the commercial for this Japan-only sedan — its 'Hard Top Innovation' slogan is literally where the Innova name came from.
The Ascot CB exists because of a sales-channel puzzle: Honda's Primo dealerships needed their own Accord-based sedan to sell.
