Ford's last attempt to revive its falling sales, in March 2002, included three new colours: "Goldrush", "Red Revenge" and "Electric Blue".
When it arrived in 1994, Ford New Zealand dealers were selling three different generations of Laser new at the same time.
This Laser was the basis of the 1991 North American Escort, which kept the Escort name partly because Chrysler already sold a Plymouth Laser.
North America got it as the Mercury Tracer: US cars were built in Mexico, while Canada's were imported from Taiwan.
The Ford Laser sold in North America was a rebadged Mazda 323, built as part of Ford's alliance with Mazda.
Launched in Zimbabwe in 1981, it was the first Ford sold there in fourteen years, after sanctions imposed on Rhodesia.
