The third generation of the Gol was released in Brazil on 29 June 2008 as a 2009 model, marketed as the "Novo Gol" and referred to before its launch as the Gol NF, for Nachfolger or Neue Familie. It is no longer based on the BX platform but shares Volkswagen's PQ24 platform with the Fox and Polo, and it is the first Gol to be offered with an automated manual transmission. Volkswagen High Torque (VHT) technology was introduced on the family, allowing the flex-fuel engines to produce higher torque at lower revs, with higher torque and horsepower on ethanol. The Voyage sedan was revealed in September 2008 and the third-generation Saveiro utility in August 2009, and the Gol received facelifts in 2012, in 2016, when a new 1.0 litre three-cylinder was introduced, and in 2018, when a 6-speed automatic arrived with the 1.6 16v FlexFuel engine. Production of the Gol and Voyage ended in 2023 and the Saveiro continued; since January 2022 the Gol was banned from sale in Argentina following the law requiring ESP.
