The pop-up-headlight twin of the fixed-headlight Corolla Levin, on the same AE86 platform, sold May 1983 – July 1987 as a 3-door liftback (and, alongside the Levin, also as a 2-door notchback coupe). This is Initial D's car. RESEARCH FINDING ON DUPLICATION: this is NOT a near-duplicate of the catalogue's existing US-market Corolla GT-S (also AE86, already published). The JDM/export Trueno GT-APEX ran the 4A-GEU 'bluetop' engine (MAP-sensor EFI, T-VIS variable intake) rated 130 PS / 128 hp at 6,600 rpm — the US Corolla GT-S ran a distinct, federalized 4A-GEC (MAF-sensor EFI for California emissions compliance) rated 112 hp SAE net at 6,600 rpm. Same displacement and compression ratio, but a genuinely different, higher-output tune — 16 hp apart — so this is filed as a separate generation rather than skipped. NOTE: the task brief that seeded this research assumed the engine might be called 'silvertop' or 'redtop' — verified false. Those names belong to the later 20-valve 4A-GE (1991+, AE101/AE111). The AE86's 16-valve engine is properly called 'bluetop'.

The RS 7's twin-turbo V8 can quietly shut down half its cylinders — numbers 2, 3, 5 and 8 — to save fuel when you're not asking for all 560 horsepower.
