The Renault Twizy is a two-seat electric microcar designed and marketed by Renault from April 2012 to September 2023, classified in Europe as either a light or heavy quadricycle depending on output power (4 kW for the 45 model or 13 kW for the 80 model, both names reflecting top speed in km/h) and as a kei car in Japan. It debuted as a concept at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, was originally built in Valladolid, Spain, and production moved to Busan in South Korea in March 2019 to meet increased demand in Asia; in July 2023 Renault announced production would end in September 2023, replaced by the Mobilize Duo. The Twizy sales price did not include the battery pack, which was leased for a monthly fee that included roadside assistance and a battery replacement guarantee, until it became available as a direct purchase in the UK in 2020. It is ultra-compact, 2.32 metres long, with scissor doors, a deformable structure, a driver's airbag and a four-point seat belt at the front, a 6.1 kWh lithium-ion battery and a 90 km NEDC range (about 50 km at high speed with no eco-driving). Models included the Urban 45 (4 kW, 45 km/h, drivable by 14-year-olds with a special licence in France, Italy and Spain), the Urban 80 (13 kW, 80 km/h), Colour and Technic trims, and the single-seat Twizy Cargo with a 180-litre box and 75 kg capacity; Nissan sold a rebadged version in Japan as the New Mobility Concept, and Renault Sport showed a Twizy F1 concept with KERS and 72 kW in April 2013. It was the top-selling plug-in electric vehicle in Europe in 2012, with 29,118 sold worldwide through December 2019.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.
