FactPresident Francois Mitterrand used a Renault 30 as his state car from 1979 before switching to a 25 in 1984.
The Renault 30 (R30) is the larger-engined and more expensive of the two executive cars built by Renault between 1975 and 1983, launched in March 1975 at the Geneva Motor Show and marketed as Renault's flagship. The Renault 30 TS was the first Renault with an engine of more than four cylinders since the pre-war Vivastella, and one of the first cars (with the Peugeot 604 and Volvo 264) to use the newly introduced 2,664 cc PRV V6 engine, developed jointly by Peugeot, Renault and Volvo, which produced 130 PS and could power the R30 to a top speed of 185 km/h (115 mph); its hatchback styling was derivative of the extremely successful Renault 16. The R30 TS launched as a single specification with power-assisted steering, four round quartz-iodide headlights, electric front windows and central locking, with a choice of 4-speed manual or 3-speed automatic gearbox. In October 1978 the more luxurious R30 TX was added, with a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel-injected 144 PS version of the V6, a 5-speed manual or 3-speed automatic and alloy wheels, electric windows all round and an electric sunroof; the R30 Turbo Diesel followed in July 1981 with an 85 PS engine. Heavy depreciation dogged the R30 (a new 30 TX Automatic cost £11,950 in May 1984 and a good example was worth about £3,450 by June 1986). It was assembled in Venezuela from 1979 to 1984 (748 examples) and 426 reached Canada; a Renault 30 served as President François Mitterrand's state car from 1979 during his first years in office, before he switched to the Renault 25 in 1984. Production of the 20 and 30 ceased on 16 October 1983.

Owning one
We don’t estimate running costs for a car like this. What it costs depends on its condition, its specialist and how it is driven, and an average would mislead.

To adapt the Horizon for America, Chrysler bought nearly 100 Volkswagen Rabbits purely to reverse engineer them.

The Mk3 Focus RS's AWD system could send 100 percent of engine power to the rear wheels alone — built not in Ford's home country, but at the Saarlouis plant in Germany.
