The 718 Cayman GT4 was revealed in June 2019 with lower, more aggressive bodywork, a large diffuser and an adjustable wing giving 50 percent more downforce than its predecessor. Its naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six, derived from the 992's 3.0-litre engine, brought cylinder deactivation to Porsche for the first time; front suspension and brakes come from the 911 GT3. A 7-speed PDK joined the 6-speed manual for 2021. Production ended in October 2025.

The GT4 RS lapped the Nürburgring 23 seconds quicker than the regular GT4, a gap usually reserved for different cars entirely.

The 718 Cayman GT4's naturally aspirated flat-six quietly introduced a Porsche first: cylinder deactivation, a fuel-saving trick the brand had never used before, on its hardest-core sports car.

The 981 Cayman GT4 shoehorned in a 911 engine turned 180 degrees to fit the mid-engine layout.

Porsche capped the 987 Cayman's engine power below the contemporary 911 to preserve the model hierarchy.

The CTR Anniversary looks like a 911 but Ruf built its carbon monocoque from scratch, no Porsche body underneath.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
