FactPlymouth quietly made the GTX the classier muscle car: its 440 V8 and TorqueFlite automatic came standard, while buyers of the cheaper Road Runner had to pay extra for that same automatic.
Chrysler introduced major changes in the design of the 1968 Plymouth B-bodies and the GTX was given a completely new look with a new hourglass body; the high-performance 440 was standard in the GTX (as was the TorqueFlite automatic transmission, an extra-cost option on the Road Runner), the GTX used the Sport Satellite trim and came as a two-door convertible and a two-door hardtop, with dual horizontal "racing stripes" on the lower sides ending with a GTX emblem. It was positioned as an upscale Road Runner, adding luxury to performance. In 1969 sales dropped when the Road Runner was also offered as a convertible; the GTX received minor cosmetic changes and an optional "Air Grabber" hood (standard on Hemi cars) with functional openings controlled from the dash, and 701 GTX convertibles were built (eleven with the 426 Hemi: four 4-speeds and seven TorqueFlites), the last year for the convertible. The 1970 GTX had a new grille and taillights, a "power bulge" hood and non-functional rear-brake air scoops with the Air Grabber's single opening on the bulge; optional were the 440+6 (three two-barrel carburetors) and the 426 Hemi. Wheelbase 116.0 in (2,946 mm), length 202.7 in, width 76.4 in, height 54.7 in.

1971 was the Hemi's last stand in the GTX — only 30 cars left the factory with one before Chrysler dropped the legendary engine for good.

Plymouth quietly made the GTX the classier muscle car: its 440 V8 and TorqueFlite automatic came standard, while buyers of the cheaper Road Runner had to pay extra for that same automatic.

Plymouth didn't sell the GTX as a raw brawler — it was pitched as the 'gentleman's muscle car,' pairing the 440 Super Commando (or optional Hemi) with a notably well-trimmed interior.

The Celica XX, Japan's name for the A60 Supra, introduced the world's first in-car navigation computer.

The CTR Anniversary looks like a 911 but Ruf built its carbon monocoque from scratch, no Porsche body underneath.

The 228's coupe styling hides a sedan underneath: Maserati stretched it onto the longer four-door Biturbo chassis to make room for its biggest V6, which is literally where the name comes from — 2-door, 2.8 litre.

Switching to fuel injection let this V8 finally shed its trademark bonnet bulge — and only 405 of these flat-hooded Series 5 cars were built before the whole model retired in 1989.

Japanese buyers got a secret weapon in their MX-6 — the JDM-only KL-ZE V6 made about 40 more horsepower than the engine sold in the exact same car in North America.

An American tuner, Callaway Cars, built twin-turbo conversions of the GTV6 that boosted its V6 by fifty percent to 230 hp — turning Alfa's grand tourer into something far quicker than the factory ever intended.
