The Opel Adam is a city car engineered and produced by Opel, named after the company's founder Adam Opel and sold as the Vauxhall Adam in the United Kingdom. Launched in France at the 2012 Paris Motor Show with sales starting at the beginning of 2013, it was built at Eisenach, Germany, on the SCCS platform related to the Corsa, designed by Darren Luke as a 3-door hatchback. On 10 October 2018 Opel and Vauxhall announced that, to optimise the model line-up and focus on high-volume segments, the Adam, Karl, Cascada and Viva would be retired after the end of their life cycles, approximately a year later, with no successor as the company focused on SUVs, notably a new Mokka. From launch there were two engines: a 1.2-litre with 70 PS (124 g/km CO2) and a 1.4-litre with 87 PS and 100 PS (129 g/km), all available in ecoFLEX form, and from spring 2014 a 1.0-litre three-cylinder SIDI turbo of 90 or 115 PS. Opel presented the Adam R2 rally study for the FIA R2 regulations at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show (a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine with 182 hp; three cars were entered in the 2015 European Rally Championship) and in 2014 the road-legal Adam S with a 1.4-litre turbo engine producing 150 hp and 0–100 km/h in 8.5 seconds. Opel had planned to sell 40,000–50,000 a year in Europe and sold over 45,000 in the first year; the Adam was not sold in CIS countries, with Singapore and Chile among the few markets outside Europe.
