The third-generation Civilian went on sale in February 1999 with TD42 and TD42T diesel straight-sixes; four-wheel-drive versions used an Isuzu Elf chassis and Isuzu 4HG1 engine. A TB45E petrol straight-six arrived first in CNG form and then as a regular petrol model, a Mitsubishi Fuso 4M50T 4.9-litre turbo diesel with six-speed gearboxes replaced the TD42s in 2004, and a 3.0-litre ZD30DDTi diesel ran from 2008 to 2011. Nissan Shatai ended production in 2021, with sales finishing that June.
